2026 Federal Income Tax Brackets

The 2026 federal tax system uses seven progressive marginal rates: 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37%. Each rate only applies to income within that bracket, not your entire salary. The standard deduction for 2026 is $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married filing jointly, reducing your taxable income before brackets are applied.

State Income Tax Rates Vary Widely

Nine states — Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming — have no personal income tax on wages. The remaining 41 states range from flat rates as low as 2.5% in Arizona up to graduated rates reaching 13.3% in California. Our state calculators apply the exact 2026 brackets automatically.

How Paycheck Calculations Work

Your net take-home pay is your gross salary minus federal income tax withholding, state income tax, Social Security (6.2% up to $184,500), Medicare (1.45% with no cap), and any pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) contributions or health insurance. Our calculator processes all deductions in the correct IRS-specified order for accurate results.
